ISIS seizes government oil tanker trucks in Syria’s Homs

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) Militants of Islamic State (ISIS) seized on Monday morning three oil tankers belonging to Syrian government forces in eastern Homs Governorate, central Syria.

A military source from the government forces in the eastern countryside of Homs stated that ISIS militants attacked three oil tanker trucks on the main road in the desert of Palmyra, central Syria. The trucks were leaving Palmyra and heading towards Homs.

The attackers who were carrying ISIS flag managed to seize the oil tanker trucks after the escape of two vehicles accompanying them, the source told North Press.

The government forces conducted patrols accompanied by helicopters in the desert at the aim of tracking the trucks. However, all attempts were in vain, the source noted.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda, and Palmyra.

The Iranian-backed militias and Syrian government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by ISIS sleeper cells.
