Atrocities committed by SNA in Turkish-occupied areas in north Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The report “Cemeteries with no Tombstones”, issued from Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press, reveals the circumstances of arrests and forced disappearance in Turkish-occupied cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the north of Hasakah, northeast Syria, and Tel Abyad in the north of Raqqa, northern Syria, and debunks the kinds of torture, physical and sexual violence, as well as the deprivation of necessary health care and even the extrajudicial killing.

In the first chapter, the report outlines stories of survivors and victims who were killed and tortured, the second chapter unveils the number of covert and overt prisons in Sere Kaniye, in addition satellite images showing the locations of some prisons, the third chapter shows the number of those held in those prisons and delve into the trumped-up charges against them, the fourth chapter reveals the liability of Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), towards those prisons and the civilians detained there, while the last chapter showcases the judicial framework of these prisons according to Syrian legislations and international laws.

In order to prepare the report, that needed three months, the Monitoring and Documentation Department summed information from 24 people, including two ex-detainees, two parents of other detainees, eight eyewitnesses of arresting processes who still have links with the detainees, six militants of SNA factions, human rights activist and others familiar with detention conditions.
