Israeli attack kills 4 government forces in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces targeted on Monday at down the vicinity of the Syrian capital of Damascus, killing four soldiers of government forces, wounding four others and causing material damage, according to Syrian state media.

The attacks were launched at about 2:20 am from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and targeted posts in the vicinity of Damascus, according to the source.

The Golan Heights have been occupied by Israel since 1967 and were officially annexed in 1981. The United States recognized Israeli sovereignty over Golan in 2019. Most of the international community considers it an illegal occupation.

Government’s Air Defense Forces intercepted the missiles and shot down some of them, the source added. 

Israel has intensified strikes on Syrian airports and air bases in recent months to disrupt Iran’s increasing use of aerial supply lines to deliver arms to allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Hezbollah.
