Casualties in ISIS attack on fuel tankers on Homs-Raqqa route

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A military source said on Tuesday that a cell of the Islamic State (ISIS) targeted a number of fuel tankers on Homs-Raqqa route. The attack resulted in the death of five civilians and the injury of four others, in addition to the killing and wounding of nine ISIS gunmen.

The attack resulted in the burning of four tankers and the death and injury of nine drivers and those who were with them, according to the source.

The source told North press that heavy clashes between ISIS and the Syrian government forces took place next to al-majbal area this morning over the attack on the fuel tankers which were heading to Homs oil refinery.

Following the arrival of reinforcements from the Syrian government forces, they were able to kill nine ISIS militants, causing the remaining assailants to retreat further into the desert.

The source informed that firefighting units are still working on extinguishing fire.

As for the injured and dead, the source said, they were taken to Aleppo’s hospitals.

The operation is the first of its kind in four years on the Homs-Raqqa vital route, which links the western and eastern parts of Syria.
