Moroccans call for repatriating relatives in Syria, Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Moroccan families with relatives still stranded in camps for Islamic State (ISIS)-related people in northeast Syria and Iraq hold the Minister of Justice of Morocco, Abdellatif Ouahbi, for failing to repatriate their relatives.
Aziz al-Bakkali, the head of Coordination of Families of Detainees in Iraqi and Syrian Prisons, accused Ouahbi and the Secretary-General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) of politicizing this issue.
Tens of thousands of women and children of ISIS families from about 60 countries are still in the two dangerous camps of Hawl and Roj within areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in northeast Syria.
Al-Bakkali stated that the minister’s pre-appointment promises differ from his actions after taking over the justice department.
Al-Bakkali called on the minister to solve the matter.
He stated that a temporary investigating team had been launched to explore the conditions of numerous Moroccans imprisoned in Syria and Iraq.
Ouahbi said that a committee was to be formed to follow up on the mission’s suggestions. However, as al-Bakkali said that this has yet to happen.
