HTS arrests officials in Syria’s Idlib over threatening security

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The General Security Apparatus of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) arrested at dawn on Wednesday three of its officials and security leaders on charges of collaborating with the US-led Global Coalition as a part of a campaign it launched last month in the region.

Exclusive sources told North Press that HTS, under instructions from Shura Council, arrested the official of the Security Oversight and Inspection Office, in addition to the official of the Civil Registry and the Deputy Investigator General in the Criminal Security, along with five other members within the same offices, on charges of providing the Global Coalition with exclusive information on its leaders and members.

Different sources informed North Press that the HTS’ campaigns launched on June 18 have resulted in the arrest of 33 individuals, including five women and eight children, all on the same charges, as well as, 88 leaders and militants so far.

Two days ago, HTS arrested the human resources official in HTS in addition to a military judge in the city of Dana, north of Idlib.

Lately, various areas in Idlib and Aleppo countryside have witnessed protests against the arrests carried out by the HTS.

The HTS, founded in 2017, controls the city of Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo, using the Salvation Government as a political and administrative umbrella since.
