HTS Salvation Government launches communication company in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Salvation Government, the civil wing of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front), launched “Syria Phone”, the first communication and internet service company in Idlib, northwest Syria.
Exclusive sources told North Press that two years ago, the Salvation Government began working to establish a new communication company called “Syria Phone” in northwest Syria, which has begun experimental operation over the past few days.
The source added that the company will officially launch at the end of July as they will begin to distribute their SIM cards to its designated centers in Idlib. The company also released the prices, which the locals considered to be “extremely high”, especially since the company is not able to provide international calls.
The company stationed in a former building of the Trade Bank as headquarters after a construction company affiliated with the HTS renovated it, according to the source.
According to the list of prices released by the company, the initial price of a SIM card is $15, the price of a one Gigabyte package is $3, three Gigabytes is $6, six Gigabytes is $12. The prices sparked discontent among the locals due to its higher prices compared to other services.
“Syria Phone” noted on its official account that they provide communication and internet services such as “cellular calls, SMS, 4G internet service and video calls.”
The source added that the Public Communication Corporation of the Salvation Government directly supervises the company amid fears of monopolizing the sector to the extent of monitoring the mobile phones of the new company’s users.
