SDF denies Russian allegations of sending fighters to Ukraine

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied on Saturday allegations that it had sent fighters to participate in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Russian media outlets had claimed that the United States was sending fighters from Syria to fight Russia in Ukraine.

On June 30, the Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti published a report citing an unnamed “diplomatic and military” source in Damascus, alleging that the US was recruiting SDF fighters to participate in the conflict in Ukraine.

Another Russian-state owned news agency, Sputnik, claimed on Friday, citing unnamed sources, that the US had transferred 650 SDF fighters to Ukraine through the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The SDF Media Center dismissed these claims as “fabricated and biased news”, adding that they were distributed by “entities known for their unreliable sources.”

The SDF stressed in its statement that its forces “are not concerned with issues outside Syria.”
