Two former opposition members killed in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two former members of the Syrian opposition were killed and another was injured on Sunday night in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria.
A local source told North Press that unknown gunmen opened fire on Humam Dirar al-Zo’bi who was killed and Muhammad Mansour al-Zo’bi who was injured and hospitalized.
The gunmen shot at them in the town of al-Yaduda in the west of Daraa.
The two were former members of the Syrian opposition before the Syrian government forces took control over the governorate in 2018, according to the source.
Another source from the town of Mhajjah in the north of Daraa indicated that unidentified gunmen shot to death Waddah Muhammad, a former member of the opposition, on Sunday.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, as well as the spread of thefts.
In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and government forces reached a cease-fire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas of Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition factions agreed to hand over their weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa. Those who opposed the agreement were sent to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
