Raqqa people protest Turkish drone strikes on north Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The people of Raqqa in north Syria went out on Sunday in protests to condemn the Turkish drone strikes against North and East Syria.

On June 20, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle carrying officials of the Autonomous Administration on North and East Syria (AANES), killing the co-chair of the Qamishli Region Council, Yusra Darwish; the Deputy Co-chair, Leyman Shouish; and their driver, Farat Toma; as well as injuring the other Co-chair, Gabi Shamoun as stated by the AANES.

Residents of Raqqa, civil society organizations, representatives and heads of committees of the Raqqa Civil Council, elders and Arab tribe leaders attended the demonstration.

The participants raised signs that condemned the international silence towards Turkish artillery and air strikes and demanded to stop them and impose a no fly zone over the region.

Ali al-Ali, leader of Tayy tribe in Raqqa, said they condemn the Turkish shelling on north Syria.

He told North Press, “We are Syrians and condemn and aggression on Syrian territories and its people.” He believes Turkey “has its eyes” on Syrian territories.

Also, people of the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli took to the street to condemn the Turkish drone strikes that target the AANES employees.
