{"id":98555,"date":"2023-05-27T11:23:22","date_gmt":"2023-05-27T11:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=98555"},"modified":"2023-05-27T11:23:24","modified_gmt":"2023-05-27T11:23:24","slug":"france-sentences-isis-related-citizen-to-14-years-behind-bars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/98555\/","title":{"rendered":"France sentences ISIS-related citizen to 14 years behind bars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Friday, the special ize court of Paris sentenced Kevin Guiavarch, a French pioneer of jihadism who joined Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria, to 14 years behind bars accompanied by a period of two-thirds security as in the first instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His wife Salma O. was sentenced to six years\u2019 imprisonment, also as in the first instance, however, she will be able to accomplish at home under an electronic bracelet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His sentence is accompanied by a socio-judicial follow-up measure of six years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the Advocate General called for greater verdicts for them, saying, \u201cSociety needs time\u201d to be able to trust the defendants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guiavarch, 30, and Salma O., 41, travelled to Syria in early 2013, even before the official birth of ISIS. However, they pledged allegiance to ISIS in June 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guiavarch claimed to have been a male nurse and admitted that he has participated in checkpoint surveillance, even though he posted photos on Facebook of him and Salma O. in fatigues and arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guiavarch had brought three young women from France, some with their children, to marry them, as polygamy is permitted by Islam, which was one of the reasons for his engagement, he acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The defendant had left Syria with his extended family and their six children in June 2016 to Turkey where he was arrested and then handed over to the French authorities in January 2017, Guiavarch has
