{"id":98138,"date":"2023-05-18T11:05:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T11:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=98138"},"modified":"2023-05-18T11:05:52","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T11:05:52","slug":"government-iranian-militia-launch-security-campaign-in-syrias-homs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/98138\/","title":{"rendered":"Government, Iranian militia launch security campaign in Syria\u2019s Homs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militia launched on Wednesday a campaign to pursue sleeper cells of Islamic State (ISIS) in Sukhnah Desert in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A military source of government forces told North Press that Special Forces of Divisions 4 and 17, affiliated with the government forces, and the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun and Quds Forces launched a joint campaign to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the Sukhnah Desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The campaign will run for three days, and warplanes and helicopters will be used in it, the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This campaign takes place following the repeated targets against the government forces and the Iranian-backed militia, the last of which <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/98015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeting a civilian bus<\/a> by a missile attack two days ago carrying government soldiers, killing three of them and injuring two others, according to the source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iranian-backed militias and government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by ISIS sleeper cells.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Hatem Bashar<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militia launched on Wednesday a campaign to pursue sleeper cells of Islamic State (ISIS) in Sukhnah Desert in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria.
