The announcement came as the Turkish elections approached.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Erdogan said in an interview with TRT Turk broadcaster, &#8220;This individual was neutralized as part of an operation by the Turkish national intelligence organization in Syria.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intelligence organization had pursued al-Qurashi for a long time, Erdogan added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director of the Media Center of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Farhad Shami said, in a tweet, that al-Qurayshi was stationed in a military post belonging to Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, affiliated with Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), and was killed in the Turkish-occupied town of Jindires, northwest Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In fact, the ISIS figure Abu Husin al-Quraishi that Erdogan referred to his killing, was stationed in a military post belonging to the Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiya mercenary group and was killed in Jindires, Afrin. There is nothing new about this incident except for the end\u2026<\/p>&mdash; Farhad Shami (@farhad_shami) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/farhad_shami\/status\/1652788288812466179?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 30, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;There is nothing new about this incident except for the end of a mission of an ISIS member that had long been protected by Turkish intelligence in occupied Afrin,&#8221; Shami said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hundreds of ISIS militants move in the Turkish occupied Syrian areas, as several leaders were killed there in the recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2022, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/80326\/\">announced<\/a> the killing of one of the top five ISIS leaders and the leader of ISIS in Syria, in a strike in Jindires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December 2022, the British Ministry of Defense <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/89549\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> the targeting of an ISIS leader in the city of al-Bab, in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the same month, another <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/89310\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISIS leader was wounded<\/a> in an airstrike, likely by the US-led Global Coalition, which targeted his home in al-Bab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city of al-Bab has been under the control of the Turkish forces and the SNA factions since 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Emma Jamal<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that Turkish intelligence forces killed Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hussein al-Qurayshi in Syria.
