DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Islamic State (ISIS), through close outlets, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for targeting a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)  in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a governorate eastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that militants of the group targeted an SDF checkpoint with machineguns at the entrance to the town of al-Hariji in al-Suwar district , 70 kilometer north pf Deir ez-Zor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news agency claimed that the attack resulted in the wounding of a number of the SDF fighters, as the ISIS militants returned safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 17, ISIS claimed responsibility<\/a> for targeting a military vehicle of the SDF in a town south of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
