QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>It is important that the US continue to support northeast Syria because the terror threat would grow in the absence of US troops, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley said on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 4, the top US general made an unexpected visit<\/a> to a US base in northeast Syria to evaluate the mission against Islamic State (ISIS) and review protection measures for the US troops from attacks done by the extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US troops and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were making lasting progress to make sure that ISIS will not reconstitute itself, General Milley stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milley told reporters traveling with him that he “wanted to check on force protection,” because US troops deployed in the region were “exposed to indirect fire attack.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Feb. 19, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that two anonymous rockets targeted their forces<\/a> at \u201cGreen Village\u201d in northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Unless you support and devote the correct amount of resources to it, things will get worse,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the US completely ignores the region, the US will set the conditions for ISIS resurgence, according to the top US general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
