{"id":93626,"date":"2023-02-25T07:58:55","date_gmt":"2023-02-25T07:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=93626"},"modified":"2023-02-25T07:58:57","modified_gmt":"2023-02-25T07:58:57","slug":"canada-provides-30-million-for-quake-hit-syria-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/93626\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada provides $30 million for quake-hit Syria, Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>In response to the UN appeal, Canada will provide additional $20 million in emergency humanitarian aid for Syria and Turkey, two countries struck by catastrophic earthquakes on Feb. 6, Canadian top official announced on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a news release, Harjit Sajjan, Minister of International Development announced that Canada is providing an additional $20 million in humanitarian assistance in response to the appeal from the UN for Turkey and Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe continue to be stricken by the terrible tragedy that is unfolding in Turkey and Syria. Today\u2019s announcement responds to the humanitarian appeals made by the international community,\u201d Sajjan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Feb. 6, a devastating earthquake hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria, killing about 50.000 and injuring many more, in addition to devastating thousands of buildings under which thousands were trapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canadian minister stressed that these funds will address the relief needs of the earthquake-affected people in Syria and Turkey and will deliver life-saving services, such as emergency food, cash and vouchers, as well as necessary water, sanitation and health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canadian people represented by the Humanitarian Coalition and its members responded to the UN appeal and donated $10 million in support to the people affected by this disaster, the minister noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Feb.8, Canada announced that it would donate $10 million to the Canadian Red Cross in response to the deadly Feb.6 quake, according to the news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the disaster, Canada has provided $50 million in response to the earthquakes, as well as it will monitor the situation through its humanitarian partners to assess and respond to evolving needs, the news release indicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy working with these experienced humanitarian partners, Canada is ensuring that its assistance will quickly go to the people who need help the most,\u201d the Canadian minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Shella Abdullhalim<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 In response to the UN appeal, Canada will provide additional $20 million in emergency humanitarian aid for Syria and Turkey, two countries struck by catastrophic earthquakes on Feb. 6, Canadian top official announced on Friday.
