{"id":91811,"date":"2023-02-01T10:28:01","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T10:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=91811"},"modified":"2023-02-01T10:28:02","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T10:28:02","slug":"syrias-manbij-records-500-thalassemia-cases-no-medication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/91811\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria&#8217;s Manbij records 500 thalassemia cases, no medication"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> About 500 cases of thalassemia were recorded in al-Furat Hospital in the city of Manbij, northern Syria, a majority of them is children, an official of the Manbij Health Committee said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder characterized by fewer oxygen-carrying proteins (hemoglobin) and red blood cells in the body than normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Najwa Aloush, head of thalassemia department at al-Furat Hospital, said that they have recorded roughly 500 thalassemia cases, though the number increases every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The department provides free treatment, according to Aloush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twenty-seven children suffer from hemophilia, while the others have contracted thalassemia, including alpha and beta. Drepanocytoses cases were also recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such patients constantly need tests and blood transfusion, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the cases are diagnosed based on the family&#8217;s medical history, due to lack of electrophoresis mechanism, Aloush pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thalassemia patients need several kinds of medication, most notably hepatitis medicine and vaccinations for hepatectomy, among others.
