{"id":90696,"date":"2023-01-12T20:16:05","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T20:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=90696"},"modified":"2023-01-12T20:16:06","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T20:16:06","slug":"assad-says-meetings-with-turkey-should-aim-to-end-occupation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/90696\/","title":{"rendered":"Assad says meetings with Turkey should aim to &#8220;end occupation&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Thursday that meetings with Turkey should aim at ending the latter&#8217;s &#8220;occupation and support for terrorism.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This came during a meeting between al-Assad and Russia&#8217;s Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in Damascus. They discussed the Russian-Syrian strategic ties and ways to develop them, the Syrian presidency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ankara launched three major incursions into Syria and control about nine percent of the country&#8217;s territory. Turkey has also supported the Syrian opposition and its military wing which tried to overthrow al-Assad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lavrentiev told Assad that Russia seeks to bring the foreign ministers of Turkey and Syria together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Assad said that in order for the meetings to be \u201cfruitful\u201d and reach &#8220;tangible goals and results&#8221;, the tripartite meetings should be \u201cbased on prior coordination and planning between Syria and Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Syrian president added that achieving such results is contingent on &#8220;ending occupation and support for terrorism.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Thursday that meetings with Turkey should aim at ending the latter&#8217;s &#8220;occupation and support for terrorism.&#8221; This came during a meeting between al-Assad and Russia&#8217;s Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in Damascus.
