foiled on early Sunday an infiltration attempt to smuggle large quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u201cBorder Guard forces, in coordination with the military agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), detected an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross Jordan&#8217;s border illegally from Syrian territory,\u201d the state-run Jordon News Agency <a href=\"https:\/\/petra.gov.jo\/Include\/InnerPage.jsp?ID=46915&amp;lang=en&amp;name=en_news&amp;cat=en_news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cited a military source as saying<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the source said, rapid response units were deployed and started \u201cdirectly shooting at smugglers, which led to injuring a number of them, while others retreated into Syrian territories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After thoroughly searching the area, \u201c8.773 palm-sized of hashish and 3,141,000 Captagon pills were found, in addition to 376 gun cartridges and 18.000 Syrian liras [Syrian pounds, SYP], which were transferred to the competent authorities,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On December 3, the Jordanian army thwarted the smuggling of 182 palm-sized hashish and 194.000 Captagon pills coming from Syrian territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kingdom of Jordan says that 85% of the drugs seized are intended for smuggling outside Jordan, especially to Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Qays
