{"id":85559,"date":"2022-10-13T11:56:51","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T11:56:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=85559"},"modified":"2022-10-13T11:56:52","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T11:56:52","slug":"asayish-member-loses-life-in-turkish-drone-strike-in-ne-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/85559\/","title":{"rendered":"Asayish member loses life in Turkish drone strike in NE Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DERIK, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>General Command of Internal Security Forces of North and&nbsp; East Syria (Asayish) announced late on Wednesday that one of its members lost his life in a Turkish drone strike in the countryside of the city of Derik (Al-Malikiyah) in far northeast Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syriac Security Office said in a statement that Ibrahim Bassam Michael lost his life in the targeting without giving further information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Syriac Security Office, known as the Sutoro or the Sutoro Police, is a Christian Assyrian\/Syriac police force operates in Jazira Region, run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), and works in concert with the general Asayish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Turkish escalation that aims at destabilizing the region \u201cis a corollary to the international silence regarding such acts by the guarantor states to ceasefire agreements,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the Turkish incursion &#8220;Peace Spring&#8221; of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday, a Turkish drone was said to have struck a car on board officials of the AANES as they were leaving a cemetery in Derik home to the body of Hevrin Khalaf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khalaf, a Kurdish female engineer from the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah) in far northeast Syria, was an active Syrian Kurdish politician. She was serving as Secretary-General of Future Syria Party. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was killed savagely by Ahrar al-Sharqiya, a Turkish-backed faction led by Ahmad al-Hayes, known as Abu Hatem Shaqra, on October 12, 2019 within the context of Turkey\u2019s \u201cOperation Peace Spring.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, Turkish drone strikes against civilian and military personnel in northeast Syria have become very common occurrences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On September 27, Zaynab Sarokhan and Yilmaz Rasho, the co-chairs of the AANES <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/84716\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Justice and Reform Office<\/a>, were killed in a Turkish drone strike of a car in the eastern countryside of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Rahaf Youssef&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DERIK, Syria (North Press) \u2013 General Command of Internal Security Forces of North and&nbsp;
