More importantly, at the end of 2015 Russia came to the aid of Syrian President Bashar Assad who was fighting the opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Afterwards, Vladimir Putin, emboldened by his power and the success made in Syria invaded Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On February 24, 2021 the world was shocked by the Russian invasion of Ukraine which was going to impinge dramatically on the Middle East. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/24\/middleeast\/ukraine-war-six-months-mideast-mime-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a>, the Russian war in Ukraine affected the Middle East in four different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>First<\/strong>, as the region is much linked to oil, oil has its share of the conflicts. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the rising prices of oil, the Gulf States have become the biggest winners. In the first four months of this year, for example, Saudi economy grew 9.9%, the highest in a decade. In stark contrast, the US economy shrank 1.5%, according to CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an agreement with France guaranteeing the UAE&#8217;s export of diesel to France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the European Union (EU) has signed gas deals with both Egypt and Qatar, so that the EU countries will never depend on Russian pipelines. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Second<\/strong>, regional strongmen that once came under harsh criticism from the West appear to be back in favor, the CNN reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was clear in the unproductive visit \u2013 so to speak \u2013 recently paid by US President Joe Biden to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where Biden saw the Gulf state had no more options but to receive a \u201cslap in the face,\u201d the CNN said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The war made Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan an indispensable figure in the international order. Based on the geopolitical position of his country, Erdogan has known how to play his cards whether by opposing the two Nordic countries \u2013 Sweden and Norway \u2013 to join NATO or by mediating Russian and Ukraine while providing the latter with drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Third<\/strong>, the Middle East region witnessed a shift in the alliances, as the countries seemed to go eastward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, the UAE joined India and China in abstaining from a US-backed UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia&#8217;s war in February.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biden commented on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia to put the US in the &#8220;best possible position to outcompete China.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fourth<\/strong>, one of the gravest repercussions of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was the halt made to the export of Ukraine\u2019s grain. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ironically, when the Arab Spring started in 2011, regimes&#8217; changing was not the obsession of all classes of society. Some demanded bread.
