{"id":82256,"date":"2022-08-18T18:08:29","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T18:08:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=82256"},"modified":"2022-08-18T18:08:30","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T18:08:30","slug":"turkey-cuts-off-water-to-syrias-hasakah-for-27th-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/82256\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey cuts off water to Syria\u2019s Hasakah for 27th time"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HASAKAH, Syria (North Press)<\/strong><strong> \u2013<\/strong> The city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria has been deprived of drinking water since August 11 due to the halt of Alouk water station by Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), said Nawara Sabri, co-chair of the Water Directorate of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alouk water station, which lies in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the northern countryside of Hasakah, is the only water resource feeding Hasakah and its countryside. The station is controlled by Turkey and its affiliated SNA since 2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2019, Turkish forces and the SNA factions launched the &#8220;Peace Spring&#8221; military operation where it occupied Sere Kaniye and its countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sabri told North Press that during the past two months, the drinking water only reached Hasakah neighborhoods for 15 days per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since October 2019, Turkey has halted service at the station about 27 times; the last time was in the middle of July due to a malfunction in the Derbasiyah power station that feeds the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The malfunction was caused by the SNA factions who fed the station with eight megawatts, while it is designed to operate at three megawatts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Eva Amin<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#Turkey has halted service at Alouk water station for the 27th time, depriving people of #Syria\u2019s #Hasakah and its countryside from the main source of life. #SNA #AANES   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":82257,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5,39,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-82256","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community","category-home","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
