{"id":81199,"date":"2022-07-30T08:19:17","date_gmt":"2022-07-30T08:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=81199"},"modified":"2022-07-30T08:19:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-30T08:19:17","slug":"us-sentences-canadian-isis-fighter-to-life-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/81199\/","title":{"rendered":"US sentences Canadian ISIS fighter to life in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The US Department of Justice, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/leading-isis-media-figure-and-foreign-fighter-sentenced-life-imprisonment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a> on Friday, said that a Saudi-born Canadian citizen received a life sentence for supporting and fighting with the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most prolific propagandists during the ISIS\u2019 surge \u201cMohammad Khalifa was sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring to provide material support to the designated foreign terrorist organization, resulting in death,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 39-year-old Khalifa, aka Abu Ridwan Al-Kanadi and Abu Muthanna Al-Muhajir, served in prominent roles within ISIS starting in 2013 until his capture by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in January 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is accused of producing gory videos used by the ISIS to \u201cincite attacks and recruit\u201d, and also of executing two Syrian soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khalifa is both the \u201cvoice-over narrator and an executioner\u201d in the most influential and exceptionally violent ISIS propaganda videos are \u201cFlames of War: Fighting Has Just Begun,\u201d and \u201cFlames of War II: Until the Final Hour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footage scenes show Khalifa executing Syrian soldiers who had been forced to dig their own graves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2013, Khalifa moved to join ISIS in Syria, where he \u201cunderwent training and used his English-language skills to narrate ISIS execution videos,\u201d according Global News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Jan. 13, 2019, he was captured by the SDF when his AK-47 jammed while he was trying to target an SDF position in Abu Badran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had his initial appearance in the Eastern District of Virginia on Oct. 4, 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The US Department of Justice, in a press release on Friday, said that a Saudi-born Canadian citizen received a life sentence for supporting and fighting with the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Syria.
