{"id":79159,"date":"2022-06-16T12:14:19","date_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=79159"},"modified":"2022-06-16T12:14:19","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:14:19","slug":"israel-egypt-to-boost-gas-supplies-to-europe-in-landmark-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/79159\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel, Egypt to boost gas supplies to Europe in landmark deal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Israel, Egypt and the European Union signed on Wednesday a trilateral natural gas agreement in Cairo to increase liquefied natural gas sales to EU countries, as Europe seeks to replace the Russian supplies it has relied on for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The memorandum of understanding was signed by Israel&#8217;s Energy Minister, Karine Elharrar, along with Egypt&#8217;s Minister of Petroleum, Tarek el- Molla, and the EU&#8217;s Energy Commissioner, Kadri Simson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deal, which has been in the works since March, will enable Israel to send its gas to liquefaction plants in Egypt, where it can be pressurized and liquefied, then transported to Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat a special moment,\u201d said Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, in a joint news conference on Wednesday alongside the Egyptian and Israeli energy ministers. \u201cI very warmly welcome the signing of this historic agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">at a joint news conference with Israel\u2019s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in Jerusalem on Tuesday night, Von der Leyen said the agreement was part of Europe\u2019s efforts to diversify energy sources away from Russia and import hydrocarbons from \u201cother trustworthy suppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Egyptian petroleum minister described the deal as \u201can important milestone\u201d for cooperation between Egypt, Israel and the Bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel\u2019s energy minister said that the deal highlights increasing cooperation between Egypt and Israel, two former enemies. \u201cThis shows us that we are paving a new path of partnership, solidarity and sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel in recent weeks had promised to accelerate its gas output as demand grew and prices soared.
