{"id":71934,"date":"2022-02-01T19:53:43","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T19:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=71934"},"modified":"2022-02-01T19:53:48","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T19:53:48","slug":"opcw-confirms-the-use-of-chlorine-in-syrias-hama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/71934\/","title":{"rendered":"OPCW confirms the use of chlorine in Syria\u2019s Hama\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IDLIB, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), issued yesterday its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opcw.org\/documents\/2022\/01\/s20202022\/note-technical-secretariat-report-opcw-fact-finding-mission-syria\">report<\/a>&nbsp;confirming the use of the toxic chlorine as a weapon in an air strike that targeted the city of Kafr Zeita in the northern countryside of Hama, north Syria on 1 October 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;On 2 October 2016, open sources broadcasted reports of the alleged use of toxic chemicals as a weapon in Kafr Zeita on 1 October 2016. The reported incident involved two industrial chlorine cylinder &#8216;barrels&#8217; containing toxic gas near a field hospital. Approximately 20 individuals suffered from suffocation and breathing difficulties,&#8221; the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FFM was able to conduct interviews with witnesses and obtain&nbsp;digital evidence, and it managed to obtain one of the industrial chlorine cylinders retrieved from the incident location in Kafr Zeita, according to the report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FFM observed that the industrial cylinder was engraved with markings reading \u201cCL<sub>2<\/sub>\u201d, the molecular formula for chlorine gas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FFM report was shared with States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
