We are also doing this in Syria to support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeast Syria, the former US Special Envoy for Syria, James Jeffrey, told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US troops have a combat mission to fight ISIS. They are authorized by US Congress. And that\u2019s the only legal authorization to conduct combat operations other than itself-defense, Mr. Jeffrey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive interview with North Press, Jeffrey confirmed &#8220;there is a very strong support in the US to keep the troops on. After Afghanistan it will be very unlikely that the US will withdraw from any place unless there is a very clear evidence that we have succeeded fully, and this is not the case now in Syria. I am sure the troops will stay.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Also being in Tanf to block the main road from Damascus to Tehran in the south. And yes, in the Trump\u2019s administration there was pressure on Assad. It\u2019s not clear if the Biden administration sees it the same way, I don\u2019t know. But there is still presence in northeast.
