{"id":70856,"date":"2022-01-16T21:04:19","date_gmt":"2022-01-16T21:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=70856"},"modified":"2022-01-16T21:04:27","modified_gmt":"2022-01-16T21:04:27","slug":"russian-jets-strike-opposition-in-syrias-northwest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/70856\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian jets strike opposition in Syria\u2019s northwest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IDLIB, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Sunday, Russian warplanes bombed Turkish-backed opposition factions\u2019 sites in south of Idlib, northwest Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russian jets conducted four airstrikes on the area between the towns of Kansafra and Fatterah in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, with high-explosive vacuum missiles, opposition military sources told North Press.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe airstrikes coincided with intense flight of Russian and Iranian drones over the area,\u201d the sources added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Turkish military point stationed in the town of Kansafra was shelled by the government forces stationed in the village of Dar al-Kabira, south of Idlib, other opposition military sources told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government\u2019s shelling caused only material damage to the Turkish point, said the sources adding that the Turkish forces did not respond to the bombing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday, the Russian warplanes targeted the positions of the Syrian opposition near the town of al-Bara, south of Idlib with four air raids.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past 48 hours, northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and exchange of bombardment between the government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions in tandem with several Russian air strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Samir Awad\/Bara\u2019 al-Shami<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#Russia has recently begun to bombard heavily the sites of the Turkish-backed opposition in northwest #Syria, without a response from #Turkey. #Idlib #HTS <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":70857,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-70856","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-military-developments","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
