ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Saturday, the death toll of protestors in Sudan, who took to the streets in rejection of the army’s taking power last week, has risen to 40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sudanese supporters of civilian rule reject the military rule in the country, so they have taken to the streets of cities, especially the capital, Khartoum, against what they describe as a “military coup”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month<\/a>, the coup leader, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, dissolved the civilian arm of the government’s power-sharing agreement, arrested civilian leaders and declared a state of emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These bloody events come more than two years after the uprising that ended with the overthrow of Omar al-Bashir in April 2019 and the formation of a transitional authority consisting of civilians and military personnel to run the country’s affairs until legislative elections are held in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
