KOBANI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Monday, the first batch of improved wheat seed arrived at the Agricultural Society Development Company in the Euphrates region of the AANES, which was sent by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 10, the USAID<\/a> announced that it decided to  send about 3,000 tons of wheat seed to northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USAID is the world’s premier international development agency and a catalytic actor driving development results. USAID’s work advances US national security and economic prosperity, demonstrates American generosity, and promotes a path to recipient self-reliance and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We received 37 tons and 660 kg of improved wheat seed in Kobani,” Muhammad Mesko Zada, <\/strong>Head of the Seed Multiplication Department at the Agricultural Society Development Company in the Euphrates region, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We sent 13 tons to Manbij, and 10 tons to Ain Issa. We have 14 tons and 660 kg of improved wheat seed left,\u201d Mesko Zada added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have started distributing the received quantities to farmers contracting with the Agricultural Society Development Company, with the aim of getting high-quality seeds during the next season, according to Mesko Zada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will receive another 25 tons of sterilized soft seed sending by the USAID, and give it to the farmers contracting with us,\u201d Zada stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of farmers contracted with the Seed Multiplication Department is 126 contractors in Kobani, who are supported with seeds and fertilizers in order to improve the quality of seeds in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cultivated areas are about 600 hectares in Kobani and 350 hectares in the town of Ain Issa and its countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Agricultural Society Development Company distributes 350 kilograms of wheat seed per irrigated hectare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
