{"id":67634,"date":"2021-11-14T10:46:44","date_gmt":"2021-11-14T10:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=67634"},"modified":"2021-11-14T10:47:02","modified_gmt":"2021-11-14T10:47:02","slug":"defeating-isis-in-northeast-syria-is-priority-oir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/67634\/","title":{"rendered":"Defeating ISIS in northeast Syria is priority: OIR"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMIHSLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The Lead Inspector General (Lead IG) report to the United States Congress on Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) stressed the priority to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) in northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report covered the military operations\u2019 details conducted in Syria by either Washington alone, or in partnership with the local forces between July 1, 2021 and September 30, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn Syria, ISIS appeared to be consolidating in the desert and poised for increased activity in the next stage of its insurgency,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe group [ISIS] also continued to focus activity in the al-Hol displaced persons camp, where it continued recruitment and indoctrination activities,\u201d it added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report pointed out that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with Coalition support, \u201ccontinued improve security at detention facilities holding ISIS fighters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">additionally, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) continued to adjust stabilization projects in Syria due to reduced funding, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDF runs 14 detention centers in northeastern Syria, where it is holding approximately 10,000 ISIS detainees, including about 8,000 Iraqis and Syrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And about 61% of them are being held in two centers run by the SDF Special Forces in the cities of Hasakah and al-Shaddadi, with the support of the Global Coalition to improve the capabilities sufficient to manage them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Agencies <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMIHSLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The Lead Inspector General (Lead IG) report to the United States Congress on Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) stressed the priority to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) in northeast Syria.
