{"id":67057,"date":"2021-11-01T16:27:11","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T16:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=67057"},"modified":"2021-11-01T16:27:33","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T16:27:33","slug":"turkish-backed-factions-suppress-protest-in-syrias-northeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/67057\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkish-backed factions suppress protest in Syria\u2019s northeast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Monday, Turkish-backed Military Police forcibly suppressed a demonstration by individuals who protested against deteriorating livelihood conditions in the city center of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe protesters gathered near al-Jouza Roundabout in the center of Sere Kaniye raising signs denouncing the poor living conditions amidst spread of unemployment,\u201d an exclusive sources told North Press. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each bundle of bread in the city is sold at 2,000 Syrian pounds (SYP, about $0,60), a liter of diesel costs 2,100 SYP, and each cylinder of household gas is about 60,000 SYP (about 17 US dollar), according to informed sources. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Military Police broke up the protest forcing protesters to head towards the border crossing with Turkey shouting slogans calling for the downfall of the local council,\u201d the sources added. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protesters demanded the reduction of prices of bread and basics commodities accusing the local council, which was formed by Turkish authorities in the city, of corruption calling for referring it to judiciary, according to the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This protest is not the first of its kind in the city of Sere Kaniye. In May, the city witnessed similar protests which were suppressed by the Military Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Turkish forces took control over the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) with support of their backed armed factions, it has been witnessing public resentment over corruption of the civil facilities and prices hike amidst the local council\u2019s disability to secure job opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October 2019, Turkish military and its affiliated armed factions launched an operation called &#8220;Peace Spring&#8221; and controlled the two regions of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad north Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Dilsoz Youssef &nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Syrian Turkish-controlled city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) witnessed protests against the local council which was formed by #Turkey. #Syria #AANES #SDF  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":67058,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5,39,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-67057","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community","category-home","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
