ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Anwar Utaqi\u2019s attempts to get a bed for his mother, who was infected with coronavirus, at Aleppo University Hospital, were unsuccessful, nor he was able to find a bed at al-Razi Governmental Hospital, which forced him to transfer his mother to the Syrian Private Hospital in Halab al-Jadida neighborhood in the city of Aleppo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that he is late in treating his mother, Utaqi is trying to do the impossible to save her life, whose health has deteriorated, due to COVID-19 complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At first we tried to find a bed in government hospitals, but we had no luck. Most of the wards in the hospitals were full,” he told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost of each night in the Private Syrian Hospital exceeds 50,000 SYP (about $14), including the costs of medicines, oxygen, and doctors\u2019 examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Utaqi has no other choice in light of his mother’s condition, especially as she suffers from diabetes, which exacerbated the complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omran Tayfor, a doctor at al-Mustaqbal Private Hospital in the city, said that dozens of cases arrive daily at the hospital and suffer from severe complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cases are not limited to a specific age, but include various groups, including children and young people, in addition to the elderly, according to the doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, due to the lack of beds, the hospital receives the most serious cases, while those with better condition are sent to their homes with quarantine and treatment procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days ago, the Syrian Ministry of Health recorded 224 new cases, bringing the total number to 34,920 in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the official account of the Ministry of Health, there were 63 cases in the city of Aleppo, including two deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Tayfor believes that the number of deaths is greater than what is issued by government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“During the past two days, al-Mustaqbal Hospital recorded ten deaths of different ages,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the doctor, the numbers will be greater in large hospitals, especially the government ones, whose patients suffer from a lack of medical care compared to private hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents of Aleppo say that the government is following a security solution in the face of the epidemic, and using its affiliated security services to prevent talking about cases and the extent of the virus outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The government must sound the alarm, as the health situation in Aleppo is collapsing,” stressed Mus’ab Samman, a doctor at al-Dabbit Hospital in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The COVID-19 infection index is very big, and the number of deaths is constantly increasing,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the aggravation of the problem, the seriousness of the health situation, and the inability of hospitals and medical staff from providing treatment and medicine, the government is still almost completely absent from reality, according to the doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samman accused the government of trying to cover up and hide the problem instead of treating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He considered the call announced by the government to take preventative measures insufficient, at a time when he called for a series of service and health measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These services include providing additional beds in hospitals and health centers, in addition to opening government facilities and turning them into field hospitals to accommodate the increasing infections, in addition to providing virus vaccines.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctor also demanded the closure of schools, universities and government departments, in addition to preventing gatherings such as parties and gyms for a period of at least 15 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
