{"id":64051,"date":"2021-08-26T17:03:18","date_gmt":"2021-08-26T17:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=64051"},"modified":"2021-08-26T17:03:19","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T17:03:19","slug":"gunman-in-syrias-hawl-camp-demands-an-ngo-to-pay-tribute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/64051\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunman in Syria\u2019s Hawl camp demands an NGO to pay tribute"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> On Thursday, a masked gunman in Hawl camp, east of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, threatened the employees of a foreign non-governmental organization (NGO) to target them if they did not pay money under the name of &#8220;tribute&#8221;, which led the organization&#8217;s employees to leave their positions in the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The masked man, who was carrying a pistol, demanded the official of one of the educational centers of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to pay tribute to all the organization&#8217;s workers in and outside the camp. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An informed source in the camp told North Press that the masked gunman demanded $300 for each employee working for the organization in the camp, and $500 for its staff working outside the camp.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the incident took place in an educational center in the fifth sector, which is one of the NRC educational centers in the Hawl camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source pointed out that the masked gunman, believed to be a member of ISIS sleeper cells, fled after warning the NRC employees of the consequences of contacting the security forces, claiming that the place was surrounded by gunmen affiliated with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organization\u2019s workers evacuated the camp with instructions to the guards of their centers (they are civil servants) to evacuate them in the event of any threat to their lives, according to an organization worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The worker suggested that the NRC would suspend its work in the camp until further notice. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sectors within the Hawl camp lack security points, as the presence of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) is limited to the camp\u2019s perimeter and to the main gate in the first sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident is the first of its kind in the camp, which includes families of militants of the Islamic State (ISIS), and previously, there has been an increase in killings targeting Syrian, Iraqi and foreign residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first quarter of 2021, the Hawl camp recorded more than 40 killings, in addition to about 30 other killings since mid-April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday, a woman and a young man of Iraqi nationality were shot dead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Jindar Abdulqader<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the first quarter of 2021, the #Hawl camp recorded more than 40 killings, in addition to about 30 other killings since mid-April. #NE_Syria #AANES #ISIS #SDF  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":64052,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[39,7,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-64051","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-military-developments","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
