{"id":61941,"date":"2021-07-06T19:49:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T19:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=61941"},"modified":"2021-07-07T11:06:25","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T11:06:25","slug":"closure-of-syria-iraq-crossing-reduces-medical-aid-by-70-aanes-health-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/61941\/","title":{"rendered":"Closure of Syria-Iraq crossing reduces medical aid by 70%: AANES health official"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Tuesday, a health official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said that the closure of&nbsp; Tel Kocher (Yaroubiyah) crossing stopped the arrival of UN aid to Syria and reduced the delivered materials by 70%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tel Kocher crossing, which sits on the Syria-Iraq border and is the only crossing through which UN aid may enter the AANES\u2019s regions in Syria\u2019s northeast, has been closed for a year after Russia and China used their veto in the UN Security Council to close the crossing to the passage of UN aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;More than a million people in Syria&#8217;s northeast, most of them IDPs, depend on the humanitarian aid to survive,&#8221; the co-manager of the Kurdish Red Crescent Sherwan Berri said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Damascus government&#8217;s limiting of the work of UN agencies to its area of control did not contribute to these agencies replacing the closed crossing,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AANES has repeatedly accused the government of not cooperating in the health field, especially during the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Berri stated they suffer from a shortage of materials and cannot provide the same quantity of aid they used to referring to the supplies needed to confront coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We try to secure the materials from the region, but it&#8217;s not always easy and possible,&#8221; according to Berri.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/61882\/\">On Monday, an official in the AANES<\/a> said that the closure of Tel Kocher crossing deprives the residents of northeast Syria of aid amounting to $26.8 million due to the suspension of support to many organizations working in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, the AANES appealed to the international community and the United Nations to open Tel Kocher crossing and to separate the humanitarian situation from the political interests of some countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Hosheng Hassan<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A health official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East #Syria (AANES) said that the closure of Yaroubiya crossing stopped the arrival of UN aid to Syria and reduced the delivered materials by 70%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":61942,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[39,3,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-61941","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-politics","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
