{"id":61052,"date":"2021-06-18T09:12:14","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T09:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=61052"},"modified":"2021-06-18T09:12:14","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T09:12:14","slug":"syrian-idps-sell-aid-to-buy-medicine-supplies-for-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/61052\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian IDPs sell aid to buy medicine, supplies for families"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) &#8211;<\/strong> The elderly Tarafa Mahmoud returned from the market of Washokani Camp for the IDPs of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, to her tent after purchasing some supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">75-year-old Mahmoud, a mother of ten, says that the food baskets that organizations provide to her family members every month and a half, and sometimes two months, do not meet their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are forced to sell some food aid that we receive once every two months to buy vegetables, medicines and some other household necessities,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the displaced families in Washokani Camp, located on December 12, west of the city of Hasakah, suffer from difficult living conditions in light of a lack of services and basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Late in 2019, Turkey and pro-Turkish armed groups occupied the regions of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad after a military invasion that caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the beginning of November 2019, the Autonomous Administration opened the Washokani camp, and more than 11,000 displaced people have been transferred to it so far, according to the camp administration. Meanwhile, thousands of IDPs were distributed in schools in Hasakah and other camps in the countryside of Raqqa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now about 14,714 displaced people live in Washokani camp, with a total of 2371 families distributed in 1,826 tents, according to camp management statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All IDPs share the same suffering, as Faisal Turki, from the village of Tawila in the Sere Kaniye countryside, who said that the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups destroyed his house and looted it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">70-year-old Turki told North Press that the organization working in the camp neglects the camp, in addition to the insufficient assistance that many families often do not receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The aid that we receive is not enough for us as a family, so we sell the relief materials that we receive to buy other household needs,&#8221; he told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the organizations affiliated with the United Nations and dozens of other organizations operating in northeastern Syria don&#8217;t provide support to Washokani Camp, under the pretext that it is not officially recognized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the start of summer, the camp is witnessing a large spread of communicable diseases among the displaced, as dozens of patients stand daily in front of the Kurdish Red Crescent medical point in order to obtain treatment and medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdulhamid Hamoud, co-chair of the Washokani Camp council, says that there has been a decline in the work of organizations within the camp recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamoud explains that the suffering is currently exacerbated by high temperatures and lack of water with the advent of summer, given that the majority of the tents are made of nylon in light of the electricity cuts due to the Turkish occupation\u2019s seizure of water from the Euphrates River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamoud attributed the reasons for the lack of support for the camp to the organizations\u2019 arguments that there are no donors or a lack of budget, but in return they provide their unlimited support to other camps in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Most of the organizations here are non-governmental or unlicensed, and to this day there is no recognition of the camp, which limits the organizations&#8217; entry here and sees the conditions of the displaced who are suffering in light of the economic crisis in the region,&#8221; he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the displaced families in Washokani Camp, located on December 12, west of the city of #Hasakah, suffer from difficult living conditions in light of a lack of services and basic needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":61053,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-61052","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-reports"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
