IDLIB, Syria (North Press) –<\/strong> Military sources in the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition said on Monday that Syrian government forces have brought military reinforcements to the de-escalation zones in the northwest of the country, and indicated that they carry political goals, ruling out military action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some media outlets reported news of new military reinforcements brought by the government forces to the fighting points on the fronts of Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, Ghab Plain, west of Hama, Jabal al Akrad and Jabal al-Turkmen north of Latakia, in addition to the areas west of Aleppo Governorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the middle of May, northwestern Syria, especially Idlib governorate, has witnessed military escalation and mutual shelling between opposition groups and government forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the observatories operating in the opposition\u2019s National Front for Liberation, who preferred not to be named, told North Press that Syrian regime forces and militias loyal to them have brought new military and logistical reinforcements over the past ten days to the contact points in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the reinforcements were stationed in the cities of Kafr Nubl, Ma\u2019arat al-Nu\u2019man, and the Shashabo Mountain area, adjacent to the western Hama countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reinforcements included a full tank brigade and various military vehicles carrying dozens of soldiers from the 25th Division and the Russian-backed Fifth Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the sources, most of these reinforcements were withdrawn by the government forces earlier from the areas of Ghab Plain, west of Hama, and Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib, towards the areas of the Syrian Desert to fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of them returned and re-positioned in the areas from which they had previously withdrawn, in addition to the arrival of new reinforcements to Mizanaz, Kafr Halab, and the 46th Regiment, west of Aleppo, and al-Kabina in Jabal al-Akrad north of Latakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rais<\/strong>ing <\/strong> readiness<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Naji Mustafa, the official spokesman for the National Front for Liberation, told North Press, “We do not trust Assad’s gangs or the Russian occupation forces, so we are conducting continuous preparation operations in anticipation of any possible scenario that may be carried out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mustafa pointed out that the front had subjected all its fighters to multiple training camps to raise combat capabilities and increase combat efficiency after studying previous battles and enemy tactics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Front for Liberation rearranged its ranks, and its affiliated groups in a manner commensurate with the next stage, according to Mustafa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, Mustafa Bakur, who is the official spokesman for Jaysh al-Izza (Army of Glory, ruled out the possibility that government forces would launch a military operation in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told North Press that the current conditions are not favorable for a ground military operation against the opposition-held areas, but he expects an escalation of air and artillery bombardments. He expressed his belief that Russia is trying to exploit the political victory by passing the farce of the elections to achieve military gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Russia will intensify its targeting of the opposition with aircraft, artillery, and missiles before the US-Russian summit to send a message to the US that it has a strong influence in Syria, and insists on imposing its conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the White House announced that US President Joe Biden will meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey\u2019s rule<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bakur pointed out that the Turkish points deployed in the de-escalation zones are not responsible for participating in any military operation that the Syrian government forces might launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These points were established according to the Astana Agreement, so its tasks do not depart from the Russian-Turkish agreements, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is also a tool for implementing Turkey’s policy in the region; if there is a Turkish order to these points to repel the regime forces, they will confront them, and if not, they will implement the orders of their leadership,” according to Bakur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
