{"id":60253,"date":"2021-06-02T06:38:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T06:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=60253"},"modified":"2021-06-02T06:38:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T06:38:21","slug":"u-s-ambassador-to-un-visits-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/60253\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Ambassador to UN visits Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Today, the United States (US) Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Linda Thomas-Greenfield is visiting Turkey to focus on the extensive support provided by the UN and its partner agencies to meet the dire humanitarian needs in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The visit will last for three days during which Thomas-Greenfield will meet with senior Turkish officials, a group of Syrian refugees, UN agencies and aid groups. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas-Greenfield\u2019s visit comes in the context of &#8220;the US works with the UN to reauthorize and expand the UN\u2019s ability to provide humanitarian cross-border aid into Syria.&#8221; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American Ambassador will emphasize &#8220;the urgent need for additional crossings and stepped-up international assistance, as there is no viable alternative to alleviate the vast needs of vulnerable populations in northern Syria.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two crossings with Iraq and Kurdistan region of Iraq in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), Semalka and Tal Kochar (al-Ya\u2019roubiyah).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tel Kochar (al-Ya\u2019roubiyah) crossing has been closed to UN humanitarian access to northeast Syria for more than two years due to a veto used by Russia and China, which exacerbated the challenges facing the region, while Semalka is non-formal crossing.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, there are two open crossings with Turkey in the Syrian opposition-controlled areas, Bab al-Salama and Bab al-Hawa.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Today, the United States (US) Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Linda Thomas-Greenfield is visiting Turkey to focus on the extensive support provided by the UN and its partner agencies to meet the dire humanitarian needs in Syria.
