{"id":59668,"date":"2021-05-22T13:40:56","date_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=59668"},"modified":"2021-05-22T13:40:57","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:40:57","slug":"global-coalition-to-protect-stabilize-syrias-northeast-sdf-commander","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/59668\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Coalition to protect, stabilize Syria\u2019s northeast: SDF commander"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Saturday, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi said that the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS \u201cstressed, through messages we received, the continuation of the Global Coalition\u2019s presence and cooperation against ISIS and efforts paid for the sake of protecting and stabilizing the area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdi, in a tweet on his Twitter account, expressed his pleasure to meet with Commanding General Combined Joint Task Force &#8211; Operation Inherent Resolve Lieutenant General Paul Calvert and commander of the United States Central Command in the Middle East Kenneth Mackenzie to discuss the security and economic challenges in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, a US delegation visited northeast Syria and met with senior officials there. The head of the delegation stressed support for continued stability in this region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The State Department said on its official website that Acting Assistant Secretary of State Joey Hood traveled to northeast Syria, accompanied by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and the Special Representative for Syria Aimee Cutrona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation included Deputy Special Envoy for Syria David Brownstein, Director of the National Security Council for Iraq and Syria at the White House, Zahra Bell, according to the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The visit is the first American delegation of this level to the areas controlled by SDF since Joe Biden came to power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation met with top officials in SDF and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and senior members of the Council, as well as tribal notables in Raqqa, in addition to military figures from the Global Coalition and humanitarian actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Assistant Secretary of State stressed the commitment of the United States to cooperation and coordination in the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, the continuation of stability in northeast Syria, and the delivery of stabilization assistance to liberated areas to ensure the complete defeat of ISIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US State Department said that the Acting Assistant Foreign Minister \u201cstressed his country\u2019s commitment to support all efforts aimed at a political solution to the Syrian conflict and responding to the humanitarian needs in Syria.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January 2020, the UN Security Council closed Tel Kocher (Yaroubia) border crossing between Syria and Iraq due to a Russian-Chinese veto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, United Nations agencies and international relief organizations used the crossing to deliver humanitarian aid to areas in northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Nations has to obtain permission from the Syrian government to transfer aid to northeast Syria. The Syrian permission is \u201coften withhold or delayed,\u201d according to a report by Human Rights Watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Khalaf
