RAQQA, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Water flow of the Euphrates River continues to decrease reaching to about 181 m\u00b3 per second, Muhammad Tarboush, an official of the General Management of the Dams in northeast Syria, said on Tuesday.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The water level of the Euphrates dam decreases by about 3 centimeters on daily basis and the water reserve in the lake is not sufficient to operate the dam for four to six consecutive days,” Tarboush told North Press. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Tishrin Dam is suspended for 16 hours per day, and only two turbines are being operated to generate electricity for eight hours, while two turbines are being operated in the Euphrates Dam, one of which suspends at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarboush mentioned that the reserve water of the lake already witnesses two problems in the summer, mainly, increased evaporation and increasing drawing of water for irrigation and drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water and irrigation stations went out of service due to the ongoing decreasing water level in the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The water flow to Iraqi territory has also decreased to about the half as a result of depletion in the water of lakes, according to Traboush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish seizure of the Euphrates water caused living problems, the most prominent of which is the shortage of drinking water, power outage, and impacts on cultivation and environment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Days ago, agriculture engineers in Raqqa warned that drought has turned into a real risk threatening vast spaces of agricultural lands that the Euphrates River irrigates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than three months, Turkey has limited the flow of the Euphrates into Syria, depriving large numbers of people of usable water. Turkey reduced the flow of water from the Euphrates River into northeast Syria\u2019s dam gradually, reducing the amount of water received to unprecedented lows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey keeps water in six dams, the largest of which is Ataturk Dam, the second largest in the Middle East, with a storage capacity of 48 billion m\u00b3, violating the international agreement they signed with Syria in 1987 which stated that Syria\u2019s share of water coming from Turkey is 500 m\u00b3 per second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The water flow to the Euphrates River is now limited to less than 200 cubic meters, according to the General Administration of Dams in Northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
