MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) –<\/strong> Muhammad Ali Abou, co-chair of the Legislative Council in Manbij, northern Syria, said that Turkey has always carried out continuous violations in northeastern Syria along the front lines in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added to North Press that they always take Turkish violations seriously, and that the Manbij Military Council has always been ready to confront Turkish violations, stand up to them, and do what is necessary to respond to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It always adopted new methods. Malice and violation of all international principles and norms,” Abou described the Turkish violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 4, the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups targeted the village of Jat in the northern countryside of Manbij with light and medium weapons, without reporting any casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey began a new battle by using water to exert pressure on the regions of northeastern Syria, according to Abou, who said that Erdogan, who claims to be Muslim, cuts off the water, despite Islam stating that it is not permissible to cut water to anyone under any circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey is violating all international conventions on Syria’s share of the Euphrates River, Abou said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than three months, Turkey has been holding water in six dams, the largest of which is the Ataturk Dam, the second largest dam in the Middle East, with a storage capacity of 48 billion cubic meters, in violation of the international agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the 1987 agreement signed between Damascus and Ankara regarding the Euphrates River, Syria\u2019s share of water coming from Turkey is no less than 500 cubic meters per second on average, equivalent to 2,500 barrels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Euphrates River water is now limited to less than 200 cubic meters per second, according to the General Administration of Dams in Northeast Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regions of northeastern Syria are experiencing a state of drought this year, and what made matters worse was Turkey’s cutting off the water of the Euphrates River, which negatively affected most agricultural lands, especially near the river’s banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven million people live in the regions of northeastern Syria, threatened by their food and water security if the Turkish side continues to cut off water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official in the Civil Administration in Manbij called on the international community to put pressure on Turkey to allow the flow of the Euphrates water, especially the United States and Russia, which are the main guarantors of peace in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also called on the Syrian government to assume its responsibilities towards the residents of northern Syria, and to demand that Turkey abide by the agreements signed between them regarding the Euphrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
