{"id":58897,"date":"2021-05-05T08:22:01","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T08:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=58897"},"modified":"2021-05-05T08:22:02","modified_gmt":"2021-05-05T08:22:02","slug":"saudi-and-syrian-intelligence-met-after-a-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/58897\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi and Syrian intelligence met after a decade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Saudi Arabia\u2019s intelligence chief travelled to Damascus to meet his Syrian counterpart in the first known meeting of its kind since the outbreak of the Syrian war a decade ago, <em>The Guardian<\/em> reported on May 3.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ties between Syria and Saudi Arabia were cut during the Syrian war in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Saudi officials said the normalization of relations could begin shortly after the three-day Eid al-Fitr next week that will mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the British newspaper added.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting in the Syrian capital is being seen as a precursor to an imminent breakthrough between two regional foes, who have been at odds throughout much of the conflict, according to <em>The Guardian<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt has been planned for a while, but nothing has moved,\u201d Saudi official who asked not to be identified, told <em>The Guardian<\/em>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvents have shifted regionally and that provided the opening,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Saudi delegation was led by Gen Khalid Humaidan, the head of the country\u2019s General Intelligence Directorate, who was received by Syria\u2019s Gen Ali Mamlouk, the special security adviser to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and&nbsp;head of the National Security Bureau of the Ba&#8217;ath Party.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Saudi Arabia\u2019s intelligence chief travelled to Damascus to meet his Syrian counterpart in the first known meeting of its kind since the outbreak of the Syrian war a decade ago, The Guardian reported on May 3.
