{"id":58854,"date":"2021-05-04T16:46:23","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T16:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=58854"},"modified":"2021-05-04T16:46:24","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T16:46:24","slug":"syrian-governments-ministries-coordinate-to-confront-turkeys-seizure-of-euphrates-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/58854\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian government&#8217;s ministries coordinate to confront Turkey\u2019s seizure of Euphrates River"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Tuesday, the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform said it will coordinate with the Ministry of Water Resources to guarantee the continuation of operating irrigation engines and enable the farmers in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, to irrigate the cultivated areas in light of the low level of the Euphrates River water. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis came after the Turkish occupation decreased the amount of water supply from 500 m\u00b3 to 200 m\u00b3 per second, which caused many agricultural engines to stop working,\u201d the ministry added on its official account on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry added that Turkey\u2019s seizure of the water greatly affects the agricultural crops, especially wheat in addition to summer crops such as cotton and vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To mitigate the damage, coordination has been made with agricultural associations &#8220;to increase the length of the water intake pipes and provide the necessary mechanisms to open channels for supplying the pumps with water,&#8221; according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, the Director of Water Resources in Hasakah, Abdulaziz Amin, reported to the Syrian government official news agency <em>SANA<\/em> that \u201cTurkey\u2019s seizure of large quantities of the Euphrates River water has caused drought of the Khabour River and its tributaries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the beginning of the water crisis and Turkey\u2019s reduction of Syria\u2019s share of the Euphrates River water, the Syrian government has not interfered though there is an international agreement that determines both countries&#8217; share of water signed in 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more than three months, <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/58677\/\">Turkey has limited the flow of the Euphrates into Syria<\/a>, depriving large numbers of people of usable water.
