{"id":58770,"date":"2021-05-03T17:27:26","date_gmt":"2021-05-03T17:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=58770"},"modified":"2021-05-03T17:27:27","modified_gmt":"2021-05-03T17:27:27","slug":"three-candidates-to-run-syrian-presidential-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/58770\/","title":{"rendered":"Three candidates to run Syrian presidential elections"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Monday, the Constitutional Court in Damascus announced names of three candidates to run May presidential elections in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The approved nomination applications are for Abdullah Salloum Abdullah, Bashar Hafez al-Assad, and Mahmoud Ahmad Mer&#8217;i,&#8221; Chief of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdullah Salloum Abdullah, born in 1956 in the city of Azaz in Aleppo, and was a member of the People&#8217;s Assembly for the legislative role 2012-2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second candidate is Secretary General of the Arab Socialist Ba&#8217;ath Party Bashar Hafez al-Assad, son of former president Hafez al-Assad, he was born in the town of al-Qerdahah in Latakia 1965 and he has ruled Syria since 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Mahmoud Ahmad Mer&#8217;i, the third candidate, was born in Rif Dimashq in 1957, and he is a member of the delegation of the internal opposition that negotiates in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On April 18, Speaker of the Syrian People&#8217;s Assembly announced that the <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/58495\/\">candidacy registration process to run presidential elections<\/a> began and would last for ten days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of applications reached to 51, of which 48 were rejected because they failed to meet constitutional and legal requirements, according to al-Lahham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those, whose applications were rejected, have the right to apply a complaint within three days starting from May 4,&#8221; al-Lahham added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Raghad al-Issa<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of applications reached to 51, of which 48 were rejected because they failed to meet constitutional and legal requirements. #Syria   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":58771,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-58770","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
