QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> On Sunday, sheikhs and notables of the tribes in the Syrian Jazira called on the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) to confront the practices of the pro-Syrian government National Defense groups (NDF) and impose stability in al-Tai neighborhood on the southern side of the city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A statement on behalf of the notables and tribal sheikhs of Jazira region said that the NDF groups wreaked havoc in al-Tai neighborhood such as drug trade, imposing royalties and threatening the residents’ safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement added that these groups operate according to external agendas, and directly affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement said that the NDF groups seek to strike security and stability and assassinate tribal sheikhs, the last of which was the martyr Sheikh Hayyes al-Jaryyan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheikh Hayyes al-Jaryyan, a prominent figure of the Beni Sab\u2019a tribe, was assassinated on April 22, by snipers from the pro-government NDF following his efforts with a civilian delegation to end the clashes taking place in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement called on the Asayish to impose security and stability in the neighborhood, to return civilians to their homes, and to confront anyone who supports projects of sedition in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes after three-day meetings between representatives of the Asayish and the Syrian government, without reaching a final solution regarding the fate of the pro-government NDF group.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conjunction with reading the statement, Russian officers, representatives of the Asayish and others from the Syrian government checked the contact lines in al-Tai<\/a> neighborhood, hours after the expiration of a temporary truce.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
