HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) <\/strong>\u2013 <\/strong>Hospitals in Hasakah, northeast Syria, are suffering from lack of oxygen, amid warnings of a “humanitarian disaster”, in coincidence with the closure of the crossings and the outbreak of coronavirus in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced 34 new coronavirus infections in the city of Hasakah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city tops the list of the infections, which have amounted to 11,092 throughout the AANES areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is only one station to generate oxygen in Hasakah,” Siham Mella Ali, spokeswoman for the Health Committee in Hasakah, said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case it is out of service<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In case it is out of service, we will have a real problem,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This station is considered the lifeblood of Hasakah region (a geographical division used by the Autonomous Administration, which includes the cities of Hasakah, Tel Tamr, Derbasiya, Hawl, and al-Shaddadi, in addition to  villages and districts).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This station supplies oxygen to various hospitals in Amuda and Deir ez-Zor, according to the health official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is coincided with the Syrian government’s closure of three crossings with the Autonomous Administration regions since March 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the continued closure of the Tel Kochar (al-Ya’roubiya) crossing despite local and international calls for the necessity to reopen it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The warning came with the imposition of the total lockdown by the Autonomous Administration in the cities of Hasakah, Qamishli, and Raqqa, today, to limit the spread of coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spokeswoman for the Health Committee also talked about “the increase in suspected cases of the infection with the virus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every day, there are between 50 to 60 confirmed cases in Hasakah alone,” she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
