{"id":57036,"date":"2021-04-05T11:33:25","date_gmt":"2021-04-05T11:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=57036"},"modified":"2021-04-05T11:33:26","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T11:33:26","slug":"isis-leader-killed-in-syrias-turkish-occupied-sere-kaniye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/57036\/","title":{"rendered":"ISIS leader killed in Syria\u2019s Turkish-occupied Sere Kaniye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> On Monday, the Violations Documentation Center in Syria (VDC) announced the killing of an ISIS leader in a drone attack in an area controlled by the Turkish-backed armed groups in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA drone allegedly affiliated with the Global Coalition targeted a car of the leader Omar Abd al-Fatah, and killed him in the village of al-Dahman in the countryside of Sere Kaniye,\u201d the VDC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turkey and its affiliated armed groups took over the cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad in late 2019, in an attack which caused the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe could not find out his real name, but he holds an ID issued by Sere Kaniye local council, which is affiliated with the Turkish-backed Syrian Interim Government and the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces,\u201d the Center added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>These IDs are linked to the official Turkish records in Urfa city, and Turkey decided to distribute them to Syrian residents of the areas that Turkey controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first time that the Global Coalition has targeted ISIS or al-Qaeda leaders in this region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On October 25, 2020, members of Turkish-backed armed groups raised the flag of ISIS in Sere Kaniye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, activists circulated video recordings from Sere Kaniye, showing members of the armed groups in the al-Jouza Roundabout in the city center, raising the ISIS flag and singing jihadist songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Khalaf Ma\u2019o<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 On Monday, the Violations Documentation Center in Syria (VDC) announced the killing of an ISIS leader in a drone attack in an area controlled by the Turkish-backed armed groups in northeastern Syria. \u201cA drone allegedly affiliated with the Global Coalition targeted a car of the leader Omar Abd al-Fatah, and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":57037,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-57036","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-military-developments","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
