{"id":56207,"date":"2021-03-18T17:04:52","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T17:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=56207"},"modified":"2021-03-18T17:04:54","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T17:04:54","slug":"syrias-afrin-is-golden-page-in-history-politician","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/56207\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria\u2019s Afrin is golden page in history: politician"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>On Thursday, former member of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the parliament of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) Ali Halo said that Syria&#8217;s Afrin \u201chas recorded golden pages in Kurdish and international history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On this day three years ago, Turkish forces and their associated armed opposition groups controlled Afrin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The key to preserving the gains and freedom is unity,&#8221; Halo told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Halo visited Afrin in early March 2018, heading a parliament delegation that included other members of Kurdish parties in KRG parliament, according to Halo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I thought I would visit a destroyed and depressed city, but I was surprised by ululation and great resistance,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Thousands of people received us with ululation&#8230;the city was perfumed with resistance amid the rise of patriotic slogans,&#8221; he pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Halo highlighted what he described &#8220;incomparable resistance&#8221; and said, &#8220;if we review the history and the wars that the world witnessed like Vietnam and Stalingrad, we see that the resisting party was always supported by at least one power.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Afrin was &#8220;alone in facing the occupation amid international community&#8217;s silence,&#8221; he referred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Afrin would not have fallen into the hands of the occupation had it not been for the failure of the world, given that it faced the strongest power in NATO,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He hoped that &#8220;Kurdish unity will be the key to liberate the occupied lands, and will be a tool to keep what is left of our land and gains.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed that &#8220;many lands have been occupied, but in the end the land returns to its indigenous people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Hassan Hajji<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former member of the #Kurdistan Region of Iraq\u2019s Parliament describes his memory of visiting #Syria\u2019s #Afrin in 2018, which was later invaded and occupied by Turkey. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":56208,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5,39,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-56207","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community","category-home","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
