{"id":55644,"date":"2021-03-08T21:01:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T21:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=55644"},"modified":"2021-03-08T21:01:34","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T21:01:34","slug":"womens-quota-in-kurdistan-parliament-is-low-parliamentarian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/55644\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s quota in Kurdistan parliament is low: parliamentarian"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press)<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; A parliamentarian in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) said on Monday that women\u2019s representation in decision-making positions in the region is low, and she also indicated a decrease in the number of women in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the occasion of International Women&#8217;s Day, parliamentarian Shadi Nawzad told North Press about the women\u2019s quota in the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region, which has been legally set at 30%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut it is a good rate compared to the Iraqi parliament, which has set the women\u2019s quota at 25%,\u201d according to Nawzad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In the executive authority, the women\u2019s quota in the current government cabinet in KRG is three ministers, which is good compared to the previous government, that granted women only two ministers,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The parliamentarian referred to what she described as the problem in the government, which is that decision-making positions such as secretaries of ministers and public administration positions are almost devoid of female representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;There is a big problem about the mechanism of raising female&#8217;s quota in the KRG, and this is what we are working for in Parliament, especially by the committees concerned with women,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the economic front, Nawzad, who is the vice chair of the Parliament\u2019s Women&#8217;s Committee, said, &#8220;A very small percentage of women have a financial source.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nawzad depended on the figures revealed by the International Monetary Fund, as one woman out of 100 has her own business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;23% &#8211; 28% of all women in the region have job opportunities and do their jobs, and this is a very small percentage,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said that the issue of the lack of a financial source or support for women increases their suffering, especially on the social level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The parliamentarian indicated that there is a relationship between violence against women and their access to work, and that the more she has more job opportunities, the less problems and violence are applied to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Hussain Haji<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On #womensday, #Kurdistan parliamentarian Shadi Nawzad says that practical women\u2019s participation in decision-making is still low and has room for improvement. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":55645,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[39,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-55644","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-middle-east"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
