{"id":54469,"date":"2021-02-13T13:13:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T13:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=54469"},"modified":"2021-02-13T13:13:01","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T13:13:01","slug":"armed-clashes-between-government-forces-and-hezbollah-backed-group-in-syrias-daraa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/54469\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed clashes between government forces and Hezbollah-backed group in Syria&#8217;s Daraa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DARAA, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Armed clashes erupted between pro-Syrian government forces the Fifth Corps, supported by Russia, and a group said to be a &#8220;drug trafficking gang&#8221; affiliated with Lebanese Hezbollah, south of Busra al-Sham region in the southern countryside of Daraa, on Friday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Clashes between the Fifth Corps and a pro-Hezbollah drug smuggling gang took place south of Busra al-Sham,&#8221; a military source in the Eighth Brigade (affiliated with the Fifth Corps) told North Press.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The clashes resulted in the wounding of two smugglers and the arrest of four members of the gang,&#8221; the source added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, a quantity of drugs and Captagon pills, estimated at 10,000 narcotic pills and 200 kg of hashish, were seized, which were intended to be smuggled into Jordan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigations with the smugglers showed, &#8220;the existence of ties that bind them to leaders of Hezbollah and a smuggling network located in Jordan, Daraa and Suwayda,&#8221; according to the source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mas&#8217;oud al-Da&#8217;rawi, 45, a pseudonym for a civil activist who resides in Busra al-Sham, told North Press that Hezbollah is &#8220;the only promoter of drugs in southern Syria.&#8221; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that this phenomenon is spreading in schools, cafes and other promotion centers throughout Daraa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that they are brought through the Qalamoun region in the western countryside of Damascus, which is under the control of Hezbollah, and then to the Daraa and Suwayda governorates. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smuggling and drug trafficking are considered one of the main financial sources in financing Hezbollah&#8217;s military activity in southern Syria, according to the same source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Southern Syria has been witnessing an active move of drug traffickers, under the cover and protection of the Lebanese Hezbollah and government security officers since 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Sami al-Ali<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DARAA, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Armed clashes erupted between pro-Syrian government forces the Fifth Corps, supported by Russia, and a group said to be a &#8220;drug trafficking gang&#8221; affiliated with Lebanese Hezbollah, south of Busra al-Sham region in the southern countryside of Daraa, on Friday.&nbsp; &#8220;Clashes between the Fifth Corps and a pro-Hezbollah drug smuggling [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":54470,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-54469","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-military-developments","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
