ERBIL, Iraq (North Press)<\/strong> – On Monday, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works distributed two million dirhams (over half a million USD) to refugees and displaced people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG), according to the Consul General of the UAE in Erbil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bewar Karim, representative of the Barzani Charity Foundation in Bardarash Camp, told North Press that the total number of Syrian refugees benefiting from Emirati aid is 2,850.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSyrian refugee families in camps of Bardarash, Coylan and Akre received a sum of money,\u201d Karim said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Erbil Ahmed al-Dhaheri told North Press, \u201cthe UAE’s bid to assist refugees and Iraqi IDPs in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq continues, through a project to help the IDPs and refugees in KRG. We distributed about two million Emirati dirham.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere will be more aid projects. We are continuing with humanitarian projects, including providing aid to Syrian refugees and Iraqi IDPs and continuing to cooperate with the Kurdistan region,\u201d the Consul General added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The refugees are waiting for wider assistance from international organizations to improve their conditions, according to Muhammad Mazhar, a refugee from Qamishli who has been living in Bardarash camp for a year and three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe hope that there will be more organizations interested in refugee affairs like this one. We hope that there will be more job opportunities and more aid in the field of health and work to secure our livelihood,\u201d Mazhar told North Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the latest statistics of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of Syrian refugees in KRG reached 241,682 as of last December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
